The ongoing work of First Parish and its ability to fulfill its mission to take care of one another and to be a blessing to the world depends on the generosity of our members and friends.
Our First Parish Covenant of Community outlines the important commitments we make to each other, including a financial one:
While many people don’t like to talk about money, it is necessary even — or especially — for churches. Here is how we offer our financial support to our beloved community:
Renewal of Giving is when we ask each person to reflect on the Covenant and make a financial commitment for the next fiscal year. Many people don’t realize that their pledge is an essential and that our pledges cover about 76% all operating costs. This includes salaries for the Minister, Director of Religious Education, Music Director, office staff, and Sexton as well as maintenance on two old buildings and dues to the UUA. It costs about $30,000 per month or $1,000 per day to run our church.
The Gathering of Commitments is part of a Sunday service where we privately (sealed envelope) and joyfully share our pledges. This small ceremony of submitting our completed pledge forms is a visual representation of the importance of each pledge. This year’s Gathering of Commitments is set for Sunday, March 26.
The requested deadline to return pledges is April 30, 2017.
Or you can pledge now: Simply use the FY18 Pledge Form — fill in three areas, click and you’re done.
