This map describes where it is permissible / customary to park on a Sunday morning in the vicinity of our historic church building. First Parish abuts Lawrence Academy, and we have permission to use some of their parking spaces, as shown. We ask long-time members and friends, if able-bodied, to use the LA lot, reached via Rte. 40. A paved path, shown in dashed red, leads to the upper lot. (Lawrence Acdemy keeps this path cleared in wintertime.) We try to leave the close-in spaces in the small lot directly behind the church for newcomers, visitors, and those who have more difficulty with mobility.
[2010-09-04] The town of Groton has begun the rework of the Town Common, Rte. 40, and its intersection with Rte. 119. As part of this work, the paved road in front of the church — the cutoff between Powderhouse road and Rte. 40 — will be closed off permanently. A paved turnaround / drop-off will remain in front of the church. When the work is complete, only a few parking spots will remain on the lower segment of Powderhouse Road along the Common. During the construction work, it will be essential that many more of us park in the lower Lawrence Academy lot. It takes about 3 minutes to walk up from this lot to the East Wing door.
